A hidden gem in the heart of the city

At 10am, on Monday 4th September, a much-loved city centre café will fully reopen its doors for the first time since the pandemic.

The Square Kitchen Café at Portsmouth Guildhall will be open to all from 10am – 3pm, Monday – Friday serving fresh, quality food at great prices with a 20% discount available for Portsmouth City Council and University of Portsmouth staff, students and Blue Light workers, plus there will be a Loyalty Card scheme for regular customers.

The menu will include piping hot jacket potatoes with a range of tasty fillings, homemade sausage rolls, sandwiches and paninis, salad bowls, cakes and bakes and a wide selection of hot and cold drinks.

A relaxed and inviting space with free wi-fi available, The Square Kitchen Café is a great place for meetings and catch ups with friends or a take-away service will be available for those looking for a quick grab and go option.

The Square Kitchen Café will also be open pre-show for ticket holders to evening events at the Guildhall.

Head of Operations, Rachel Maryan said, “It is great to be fully reopening The Square Kitchen café and we look forward to the hustle and bustle it will bring to the heart of the Guildhall during the daytime. We have been operating The Square Kitchen as a casual meeting space for the last 6 months, but it is great to now be throwing open the doors and welcoming everyone, including we hope our old regulars, back in”

Whilst visiting the café, customers can also visit the range of free exhibitions available to see at the Guildhall (subject to availability) including the Portsmouth Music Experience which reflects on the local music scene, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, The Beatles at The Savoy & Guildhall which gives a fascinating insight to the rock sensation’s visits to the city in 1963, Discover the Guildhall which brings to life the memories and historic events surrounding the Guildhall and photographic exhibition; Icons of Rock Portrait & Performance.      

A visit to the café could also be combined with one of the Guildhall’s many ‘Get Involved’ activities for the community which include a Skiffle Orchestra, Recharge – a singing workshop for the over 55s and Mrs Blossom Makes family craft sessions.
