Ahead of his Noughties Baby show at Portsmouth Guildhall on the 31st of May!
What are you most looking forward to about your Noughties Baby show in Portsmouth?
It’s such a vibe, it’s a night where people go back to the Noughties. A decade where they probably had a lot less worries, it brings back good memories of great music, big hits and it’s just a celebration of an amazing period of time with loads of big hits.
Have you been to Portsmouth before?
Absolutely! I’ve DJ’d loads in Portsmouth over the years and looking forward to being back in Pompey again
What song is guaranteed to get everyone dancing?
Dancing or Jumping? Jumping… Dizzee Rascal – Bonkers. Dancing… I would say the old skool garage section like Sweet Female Attitude – Flowers and Do You Really Like It?
Which DJ inspires you the most – past or present?
Fatboy Slim, he’s such an incredible DJ. He plays the most eclectic range of music but it always works. He’s never afraid to try something outside of the box, he’s amazing live. He’s been doing it for so long and still draws in some of the biggest crowds around the world. Big fan of his, have been for a long time.
What was your worst 00s fashion/style moment?
100% the deep V t-shirts we wore in JLS. I think one time I was wearing a deep V t-shirt and the V peaked at my belly button. Totally unacceptable but I’ve no regrets!
How did you see in the new millennium?
I grew up in Greenwich, so I vividly remember NYE 1999. Me and my cousins, on our bikes, thought it would be a good idea to go down to the Millennium Dome (now the o2 arena) and try to gatecrash a party down there. We had zero success, so went to our Grandma’s house and ended up watching Big Ben chime Midnight on her TV. Massive anti-climax.
Who is your favourite member of JLS?
Marvin!
If you could be in any other boyband which would it be?
This is a tough one, I would say Boyz II Men (If you can call them a boyband) Not sure how I’ve got audacity to think I could match them vocally. But 100% Boyz II Men.
What is your favourite Saturdays song?
My favourite Saturdays song is What About Us featuring Sean Paul. It was a number 1 record for the girls and I’ve got great memories of them performing it. I actually met Sean Paul with them in New York, you might hear that song in the show actually…
If you could have chosen your mentor on the X Factor who would you have picked?
You know what? I wouldn’t change anything, it was all part of our journey! Louis was amazing for us, he believed in us 1000% and he does to this day. He still has an issue with the fact that one week we wanted to sing a Take That song and Dannii had first dibs and she picked the same song as us. Louis was absolutely fuming about it. He spoke about it recently on a podcast and you could tell he was still angry about it 16 years later! So I wouldn’t change Louis for the world, he really looked after us well.
What was your toughest challenge on I’m a Celeb?
Toughest challenge was not seeing the family. I’m always at home and to be without contact for 6 weeks was really hard. Aside from that, sleeping! Because you’re desperate to go to sleep, you’re absolutely terrified of your surroundings and you can’t wait to wake up so you’re constantly tired. It was a great experience though and wouldn’t change it at all. I absolutely loved it even though it was the most challenging thing I’ve done.
