Takedown Festival!
The South’s fan and band favourite independent alternative-rock and metal festival, Takedown Festival, has been nominated for three prestigious UK Festival awards following its storming return to the festival scene after an 8 year hiatus!
Nominated for the Best Small Festival, Best Metropolitan Festival and The Grassroots Festival awards in the 2023 UK Festival Awards, the only fully festival focussed awards in the UK.
Decided by online public votes and an industry panel (The Grassroots Festival award only), people are urged to vote ahead of the deadline on 23rd October at: www.festivalawards.com
Takedown Festival, held inside and out of Portsmouth Guildhall on 8th April this year, featured over 40 bands across 4 stages in 10 hours of festival fun including heavy hitters of the rock and metal worlds; Sleep Token, Skindred, Loathe, Jamie Lenman, Punk Rock Factory, InMe, Palm Reader and many, many more.
Takedown Festival, produced in a new partnership between Divergent Festivals and The Guildhall Trust, was a firm hit with attendees with feedback including:
“It was perfect – the layout, the bands – this event was amazing!”
“The venue is great. Short travel time between stages makes viewing multiple acts easy and the outdoor stage worked really well”
“Really nice, friendly and safe vibe”
Of the award nominations, Co-Directors of Divergent Festivals, Kai and Sarah Harris said, “We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for not just one, but three awards in this year’s UK Festival Awards! We have been blown away by the support and feedback we have received in bringing Takedown Festival back and it works so well in its new location – we can’t wait for the 2024 event which promises to be even bigger and better! These awards are decided by public vote so we really do urge everyone to get behind Takedown Festival and bring it home!”
Chief Executive Officer for The Guildhall Trust, Andy Grays, added “We were delighted to bring an alternative-rock and metal festival to the city and fill the gap in the market for fans of the genre. Between Takedown Festival and Victorious, Portsmouth could scoop over half of the awards available which would be a fantastic achievement for the city’s music and festival scene!”
Following this year’s success, Takedown Festival is set to return to Portsmouth Guildhall as a 2-day event on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April 2024 with the first line-up announcement expected shortly. Last remaining Super Early Bird Weekend Tickets ahead of the announcement are on sale now at: www.takedownfestival.com
