Following sell-out success...
The South’s fan and band favourite independent alternative-rock and metal festival, which took place on the Easter weekend at Portsmouth’s Guildhall, has already been hailed as such a huge success it has been announced that the event will return for 2 days next year!
After an 8-year hiatus, the festival which had previously been held at Southampton University and Salisbury City Hall was brought to Portsmouth in a brand-new partnership between The Guildhall Trust and Divergent Festivals and featured over 40 bands across 4 stages in 10 hours of sold-out festival fun.
Heavy hitters of the rock and metal worlds, Sleep Token and Skindred headlined the event with Loathe, Jamie Lenman, Punk Rock Factory, InMe, Palm Reader, Our Hollow Our Home, As December Falls, CLTDRP, Fearless Vampire Killers, The Bottom Line, Seething Akira and Dendera amongst the other bands to perform.
For The Guildhall Trust, Takedown Festival is the latest addition to its portfolio of events that they produce and manage, a programme which the Trust has substantially invested in over the last 5 years with other events including Portsmouth Comic Con, Dance Live! Guildhall Games Fest, Fiesta, Big Mouth Comedy Festival and more.
Chief Executive Officer for The Guildhall Trust, Andy Grays, said “We were delighted to bring an alternative rock and metal festival to Portsmouth featuring such a great calibre of artists. Portsmouth has a fantastic music scene, but we felt there was a gap in the market for fans of this genre. As a cultural management we have invested considerably in our events programme in recent years to develop additional income streams and diversify our business model”.
Attendees of the festival were also pleased to welcome the event to Portsmouth:
“It was perfect – the layout, the bands – this event was amazing!”
“The venue is great. Short travel time between stages makes viewing multiple acts easy and the outdoor stage worked really well”
“Really nice, friendly and safe vibe”
“You guys absolutely smashed it – thank you for an awesome day!”
“This is by far the best music event I have attended in Portsmouth”
“Great, chilled atmosphere”
“Cracking day and thought you guys did an amazing job with the whole event – so much going on all over the venue”

Co-Directors of Divergent Festivals, Kai and Sarah Harris said, “We have been absolutely blown away by the support and feedback we have had for Takedown Festival this year and can’t wait to work with The Guildhall Trust to make it even bigger and better across 2 days in 2024!
