Sample some of what your Guildhall offers!
Following last summer’s hugely successful SAMPLED open day at Portsmouth Guildhall, the venue will be throwing open its doors once more this Sunday 21st August, 11am – 3pm, for a FREE family fun day!
SAMPLED gives people an opportunity to step inside the Guildhall and sample some of the entertainment, activities and workshops that are on offer throughout the year and provided by The Guildhall Trust, the charity that runs the city’s premier concert and event venue.
The FREE event offers something for everyone including live music from Guildhall Studio Promoter, LMSUK Media with acts including CRSTIAN TR, Max Ryan, Simon Howard and Eric Walker Music. Performances from the Lucky Penny Trio and Southsea Skiffle Orchestra can also be enjoyed.
If taking part is more your thing there is opportunity to participate in a UVG – The Urban Vocal Group singing and music-making session and a drums and percussion workshop where you can make some noise and experience the carnival beats of Brazil from Bahia to Rio in an exciting Samba workshop.
In a sample of what it would be like to compete in Dance Live!, the Trust’s annual dance contest for schools and colleges, people will be able to learn how to use green screen technology to make their own video and photo content.
Families will also be able to enjoy a taste of the Trust’s Portsmouth Comic Con and Guildhall Games Fest events with the opportunity to have their photo with their favourite superheroes with Inclusive Events CIC, play retro and board games and design their own superhero mask.
Adding to the fun will be the chance to create your own comic inspired fabric patch with Splodge Designs which can be taken home and sewn or ironed onto your clothes and the opportunity to follow the Seekers Creates Games Fest Trail and doodle your favourite superhero to be added to a huge Comic Con art creation!
Further family fun can be found with Red Sauce Theatre Company who present a story full of magic and mystery, The Dancing Shoes. An interactive drama with exquisite puppets that will take you on a journey to a faraway place.
For those keen to find out more about the history of the Guildhall and Portsmouth’s music scene, the venue’s ‘Portsmouth Music Experience’ and ‘Discovering the Guildhall’ exhibitions will be open with a series of tours and talks also available.
There is also the chance to find out more about The Makers Guild who provide a makerspace within the Guildhall with facilities for craftspeople, designers and engineers within a supportive creative community. See some of the items they create and a small selection of local crafters.
With refreshments available from the Guildhall’s Square Kitchen Café, SAMPLED is your chance to enjoy some FREE fun and entertainment, meet the team and get to know what’s happening at your Guildhall.
There is no need to pre-book, just come along on the day!
