Much-loved event set to reach even more schools and students across the UK

The Guildhall Trust and Global Rock Challenge Ltd are delighted to announce that they will be working together to grow and develop the Rock Challenge and JRock events, expanding them to more schools and students across the UK.

The two organisations have been working to secure the future and develop the potential of the much-loved event which has taken place at Portsmouth Guildhall since 1996 as well as other towns and cities across the country.

In 2019 over 20,000 students from 320 schools produced dance/drama performances for the competitions staged in 53 live shows in 17 professional venues from Portsmouth to Inverness.

The off-site educational activity is a unique way to bring students and teachers together. It promotes healthy lifestyles without tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Each school forms a team of up to 100 students to create an eight-minute minute production to a theme of its choice, creating a music soundtrack from publicly available music, build sets, make costumes, design hair and makeup features and assist in Production Management with stage and off stage crews.

The Guildhall Trust is a registered charity aspiring to become one of the country’s leading cultural organisations; inspiring, entertaining and transforming lives. Responsible for the operation of Portsmouth Guildhall, the Trust already delivers an extensive range of interactive opportunities for young people through its ‘Get Involved’ programme and sees Rock Challenge becoming an integral part of this whilst increasing the impact of the charity’s work to a wider region.

The Guildhall Trust will support and develop the sponsorship and promotion of the event with the aim of reaching more schools and engaging more pupils throughout the UK as they move into full management and production responsibility in 2020.

Chief Executive Officer of The Guildhall Trust, Andy Grays said, “We are delighted to be working with Global Rock Challenge Ltd to continue delivering these first class events for schools. Each year we see the pride and enjoyment the children have in competing, their skills and confidence growing and we are amazed at the levels of effort and quality of performance! Already successful in 18 other towns and cities it is our vision to develop these events and expand further to other towns and cities to engage even more children.

Helen Sjoquist, Director of Global Rock Challenge Holdings Ltd, added, “Rock Challenge and JRock are proven vehicles designed to help students in their quest for skills, knowledge and character development. We are looking forward to working with The Guildhall Trust team to provide the educational opportunities the events provide for many more students and schools.”
