Multi-service acid attack exercise and workshop

Earlier this month, Guildhall Studio played host to over 50 people for the first of a series of workshops designed to help businesses and organisations in the south learn how to protect themselves and deal with incidents in response to the increasing and changing nature of violence in today’s world.

The workshop and exercise led by Invictus Pro Training in association with Simex Moulage Academy, NHS South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and The Guildhall Trust offered attendees the opportunity to learn about the potential impact of a corrosive substance attack and how such an incident should be dealt with.

An expert panel covered crowd dynamics, security, medical, trauma and emergency service response with a realistic and interactive training scenario.

Chief Operations Officer of Invictus Pro Training, KT Jones said, “The past few years have seen a surge in corrosive substance attacks within the UK and we felt it was important to address this and assist those involved with the safety and security of crowded spaces to be better prepared should the worst happen. We are pleased to have been able to provide a collaborative learning opportunity for industry professionals and emergency service personnel to develop cohesive working and improve the outcome for all”.

Feedback from attendees to the day was extremely positive including comments from Michelle Walton; “Fantastic workshop, great impact, very informative” and Teri Dunning; “Fantastic training this morning. Well worth the effort of attending – more like this is needed!”

Head of Security and Safety for The Guildhall Trust, Ian Featherstone added “As one of the largest entertainment venues in the South, we were keen to support this training initiative which gave our staff valuable, practical experience in dealing with a violent incident and we are delighted that this will continue with a monthly security masterclass at Portsmouth Guildhall, encouraging CPD in the sector”.
