Every Thursday at the Portsmouth Guildhall
As part of its drive to make workshops and activities more inclusive for the wider Portsmouth community, the Guildhall Trust has today announced a brilliant new activity for those with limited movement will be added to its already diverse and inclusive programme.
The class, called Caroline’s Seated Movement to Music, is a gentle, relaxed and at times raucous session of playful movement to music where there is fun and laughter to be had. There is no experience necessary and the session is open to people of all abilities and disabilities.
The session, aimed at those over 55, comprises of 45 minutes of seated physical activity, covering different dance styles, followed by 15 minutes of relaxation and basic shoulder massage and then followed by refreshments.
Dance artist, Caroline Broadbent, has over 20 years’ experience of community dance and specialises in dance with older people and disability and dance. Caroline says, ‘I’m really looking forward to meeting new participants at The Guildhall. My seated Movement to Music sessions really are a boost to one’s emotional and physical wellbeing and I am thrilled that the Guildhall Trust is expanding its inclusive programme and look forward to contributing to the diverse programme that the Guildhall has championed with my classes.’
Learning and Participation Manager at the Guildhall Trust, Hayley Reay, says ‘We are really excited to be able to add this fantastic, inclusive, and creative opportunity to our programme, which fits perfectly alongside our existing activities, such as our Recharge singing workshops. This is part of our aspirations to make access to cultural experiences available for all, so that the community can experience the benefits that engaging with activities like this can bring.’
Caroline’s Seated Movement to Music is due to happen every Thursday – with the first session commencing Thursday 3rd October at 2:30pm and tickets are £3 per person, with people of all abilities encouraged to come along. There is no need to pre-book for this, and there is the chance to stay on after the course and join our Recharge event, which is an extra fee of £2 and is a chance to chat over teas and coffees with other members of the community.
