Portsmouth Guildhall Green Initiatives

We aim to:

  • Conserve natural resources such as energy, water, wood, paper, especially where those resources are non-renewable, wherever possible.
  • Use recycled or refurbished materials where possible to reduce waste, especially to landfill.
  • Use existing and recorded data to calculate the venue’s annual carbon footprint and reduce where possible.
  • Ensure that products are sourced from sustainable environments.
  • Maintain fair pressure upon suppliers to develop environmentally friendly goods and services.
  • Inform, train and motivate staff to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Promote the use of public transport, both for employees and audiences.
  • Communicate our goals to contractors, and other non-employees working on site

Ecologi

For each Conferencing event held in our Main Auditorium we fund 50 trees to be planted through our partner, Ecologi, an environmental organisation that facilitates the funding of carbon offset projects and tree planting around the world.

It is Ecologi’s mission to reduce 50% of global CO2 emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year. As of today, Ecologi has planted 50 million trees and offset 2.2 million tonnes of CO2e through projects verified by Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard and Gold Standard, a certification supported by bodies such as WWF and the United Nations.
