Singers invited to join new group in Paulsgrove!

UVG – The Urban Vocal Group is relocating its Portsmouth Adult Vocal Group to a new venue in the north of the city and is looking for new singers to join the popular sessions.

Starting on Wednesday 6th October, the group will run every week from 7.30 – 9pm in St Michael’s Church opposite Allaway Avenue shops, for all abilities and ages 18+ and will give people the chance to sing for fun, relieve stress and make new friends. There is no need to book – simply turn up on the day!

With contemporary music arrangements from the last 20 years, participants are also offered opportunities to perform at events and festivals including Victorious Festival and at Portsmouth Guildhall.

A FREE trial session is offered to all Adult Group newcomers when they first attend, and the weekly price of £5 thereafter supports the provision of free singing and other music making activities for young people in the local area.

The group is an exciting addition to the established Havant Adult Vocal Group which takes place at Havant Methodist Church on Thursday evenings, with plans for a further Adult Group to be launched in Gosport in the new year.

UVG is currently also welcoming new singers to its FREE Youth Vocal Groups for 10-18 year olds, which run at Portsmouth Guildhall and Bedhampton Community Centre.

Co-Founder and UVG Projects Manager for The Guildhall Trust, Charlie Fletcher said “We can’t wait to welcome people to the new Adult Group in Paulsgrove! It is often said that there isn’t enough for people to do in the north of the city so we are really excited to introduce something there which is just about having fun, enjoying yourself and escaping the everyday for 90 minutes. It is free to attend your first session so we urge people to come along and give it a go!”

Existing members are also delighted to see groups expanding into new areas so that more people can engage:

Being part of AUVG has been so amazing and I’m so glad I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and to build my confidence so much!”

It is very humbling to know that in that moment of need during lockdowns AUVG was still there to provide some respite, some hope, and a lot of love.”

Singing with AUVG is really uplifting and when I’ve gone through difficult periods of my life carrying on with AUVG has really boosted me.”

Since forming in 2008, UVG – The Urban Vocal Group has provided over 18,000 opportunities, all of which for young people have been provided free of charge, to engage in singing and music-making, develop transferable skills and to nurture positive health and wellbeing.
