You may know the Guildhall as one of the regions biggest music, arts and entertainments venues which has seen the likes of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons perform here. You may not know that this iconic venue is managed by the Portsmouth Cultural Trust, a registered charity, and that we rely on the generous support of our community and beyond to continue.
Why support us?
We currently receive funding from Portsmouth City Council which amounts to less than a quarter of what we need to operate. With increasing pressures on public arts funding it is more crucial than ever to seek additional support. Consequently, we have to raise, from a variety of sources the remaining income needed for us to continue to successfully run the various strands of the organisation.
Learning & Participation
Through Guildhall Participate, our Learning and Participation programme, we reach over 4,000 people from Portsmouth and the surrounding region each year. Our team is continually exploring creative ways to get people involved in the arts, including many who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity. Support from our members and sponsors helps us to continue our community engagement work.
Through our own programme of events we aim to provide a rich and diverse cultural offering to our audiences. Support via grants from various Trust & Foundations allows us to commission new work by emerging artists.
As a Grade II listed building the Guildhall needs continual maintenance to keep it ready to receive its many visitors. Our Maintenance Team does a great job, but after having seen little investment in over 55 years it now in much need of a facelift. Guildhall Renaissance is our ambitious solution to develop the Guildhall which aims to address the challenges of an ageing venue whilst at the same time preserving the heritage of this iconic building. Support via our online donation facility helps add much needed funds to this cause.
