BBC Music Day
Friday 3 June 2016, 10am - 3:45pm, Portsmouth Guildhall
BBC Music Day is a UK-wide celebration of everything we love about music with the aim of bringing people from different generations and communities together, so come along to the Portsmouth Guildhall for a day of celebrating, enjoyment and learning.
This year the Portsmouth Cultural Trust and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have partnered to deliver an exciting day, suitable for all of the family to get involved. From a Family Orchestra with the BSO to singing workshops for 55+, a vegetable orchestra, open rehearsal and tour of the building, there is something for everyone.
Discover your voice- Recharge: singing workshops for 55+
10:00-11:00 // 1st Floor Business Lounge // £3 per person (tea & cake included!)
Singing makes you feel great! It exercises your heart and lungs. It can lift your mood no matter what the weather. No auditions necessary and there is no need to read music so come along and join in the feel good sessions.
With experienced workshop leader Tamsin Brainwood.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: Family Orchestra
10:30-12:30 // 2nd Floor Lord Mayors Banqueting Suite // FREE
The BSO Family Orchestra aims to encourage people to come together to share the joy of music making, experience playing in an ensemble with other like-minded individuals and to create brand new pieces of music from scratch. The Family Orchestra is open to everyone whatever their musical standard. From experienced musicians to those who have just started on an instrument. From having a go on a hand-held percussion instrument to using your everyday voice, the orchestras are open to all! And best of all, no auditions are necessary. Turn up and play!
Create brand new pieces of music from scratch alongside a menagerie of fellow musicians young and old. Any instrument, any standard, any age welcome! Whole family entertainment guaranteed, open to all. But all must participate! So gather up your relatives and dig out all your musical instruments to join the BSO Family Orchestra.
We will find a way to create a new orchestra from your energies and excitement.
We will find a way to create new music from your inventions and ideas.
We will find new ways to communicate and listen to each other.
If you have only had one lesson or if you have played an instrument for many years, you are welcome and will be able to contribute. If you like music, but have never played an instrument and are not sure about the quality of your singing voice (and we all have a singing voice!) you are welcome.
