OPPORTUNITIES FAIR

Saturday 29 Sep 2012 - 10am – 4pm. Free admission

Please note that this event has passed.

Not long now until thousands of children descend on the Guildhall for our second Portsmouth Opportunities Fair. Saturday 29th September will showcase 100 businesses to the next generation. Children aged between 10-13 and their families will attend the 10am-4pm event where they will get the chance to meet locally based businesses and find out more about what opportunities are available to them. What’s more, they will be able to find out how they can reach their dream jobs too. The event is aimed at raising the aspirations of young people by getting them excited about their future in the City. They will learn about different pathways into careers and get practical advice and inspiration to achieve better at school. Exhibitions are fun and interactive so children get hands-on experience of future opportunities and are able to recognize the practical use of their school subjects. This year we are looking for even more businesses to take part!

We need your help to get young people inspired!
Ways to get involved:

Showcase your company

If you are a Portsmouth based business, we want to showcase your company in a fun and interactive way to engage children and help them to understand what you do.
For example, last year Premier Inn ran a timed competition to see who could make a bed the fastest! IBM brought along their brain-controlled car and Portsmouth Marriott Hotel helped children to make pasta! You can be as imaginative and inventive as you like! But if you’re stuck for ideas, we are here to help. Contact Jacquie Jones at jjones@portsmouthebp.co.uk.

Be a Role Model

Youngsters look up to celebrities and others who have succeeded in their careers and inspire confidence. We want to give children the opportunity to look up to local ‘Role Models’ who can talk to them about their aspirations and relate to their experiences.
Even if your business can’t attend on the day, we still need your help to talk to children about your experiences and how you have got to where you are now! Were you born & educated in Portsmouth? Or do you work here and are proud of your association with Portsmouth?Make a difference to a child’s future by inspiring them as a Role Model.
